Weiach Historik 2026: An event for all generations
The second edition of Weiach Historik took place on the weekend of May 16 and 17, 2026, delighting visitors of all ages.
Over the course of two days, the gravel pit transformed into a gathering place for technology enthusiasts, families, and lovers of vintage machinery.
Around 15,000 to 20,000 visitors made their way to Weiach that weekend, creating an impressive atmosphere across the entire site.
Preparations for the event began early in the week. The first pieces of construction equipment were delivered, followed from Wednesday onwards by large vintage machines such as the Caterpillar 245 excavator, the 983 track loader, and the imposing D9G bulldozer. On Friday, low-loader trucks arrived almost by the minute, at times even causing a minor traffic jam within the gravel pit.
Over the weekend, numerous attractions awaited visitors of all ages in the rail unloading hall. For the youngest guests, there was a large sandbox, ride-on toy cars for zooming around, and a bouncy castle provided by Roxor. Our apprentices also enthusiastically showcased their trades, offering visitors exciting insights into their daily work—such as through a conveyor belt game where children had to sort materials like wood and metal, and an activity involving making their own concrete blocks. Our road construction apprentices proudly presented their final apprenticeship project and invited young visitors to lend a hand.
There was plenty of hands-on activity to discover as well. Visitors could try their hand at welding, paint candle molds, or take souvenir photos at the photo booth in the ebi.YOUNG container. Those who paid close attention while touring the hall and answered all the quiz questions correctly were rewarded with a cool ebi.YOUNG cap at the ebi.YOUNG stand.
Another highlight was the opportunity to go for rides in trucks, vintage Saurer vehicles, and modern electric trucks.
The historical construction site also generated great enthusiasm, vividly demonstrating how work was carried out over 50 years ago—using cable excavators, narrow-gauge railway tracks, stone crushers, and a great deal of manual labor. A total of 58 people dressed in period workwear brought the past to life for the visitors.
Exhibitors of modern machinery were also delighted by the large turnout. A particular crowd-puller was the new GIPO P 131 GIGA mobile crusher; the 108-tonne machine was presented to the public for the first time and attracted plenty of interested attention.
Happy faces were to be seen everywhere throughout the weekend—among visitors and exhibitors alike, as well as Heinz and Hansruedi Eberhard, who felt like children again themselves while in the giant sand pile.
A huge thank you goes to all the visitors, exhibitors, and partner companies, as well as the numerous volunteers and staff members whose dedication and support contributed to the success of Weiach Historik 2026.
